Gabi Sultana, born in 1983 on the island of Malta, is presently reading for a ManaMa Degree in Soloist Contemporary Music following her success in obtaining her Masters’ Degree with Honours last June, both under the guidance of Daan Vandewalle at the Conservatorium of Ghent, Belgium. She obtained her Bachelor Degree in June 2008 from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, Holland under the guidance of Marcel Baudet. During her studies in Malta she obtained Diplomas from Trinity College, London School of Music and the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music, London. She won several local piano competitions and was invited by EPTA (UK) to represent Malta in a concert at the Guildhall School of Music in London in 1999 and at the Festival of Winners Concert at the EPTA Conference 2000 held at the Liszt Academy in Budapest. She also attended the Lake District Summer Music International Festival in 2001. She attended masterclasses with several renowned professors from the UK, Ukraine, Moscow, Hungary and USA. During her studies for her Bachelors she attended several workshops including a two-week workshop with the renowned composer Steve Reich, and has taken part in several concerts, both as a soloist and as a member of the “Ensemble Royal” and “Modelo 62″, with whom she toured Holland twice. In Belgium she is a founder member of 5° Ensemble together with Daniel Pastene (clarinet) and Kristof Lauwers (electronics). She is the recipient of the first Giorgio Federico Ghedini Bursary in 2009, and a Malta Arts Scholarship in 2010.
